The Logo
The Tubanharon logo is inspired by a legend involving a native Indian, a shark, a Jesuit, and a Captain. Its design, built from four circles on an inclined plane, invites imagination: Seen one way, it is a shark head tilted at 40°, ready to bite a hollow circle. Rotated, it becomes a sinking shark tail — or the silhouette of a Jesuit ministering Eucharist to tame the shark. Alternatively, one might see a man confronting the fish with a shield. The composite outline even resembles the profile of an indigenous Guarani warrior, nose pierced, facing left. The logo is meant to be interpreted in multiple ways, blending myth, nature, and history into a single symbol.
The Name
The name Tubanharon comes from the Tupi-Guarani term “Tubá-Nharõ”, meaning “ferocious father”. It refers to the Tubarão River, sometimes calm and nurturing, other times rising in destructive floods. It also echoes the memory of a Carijó tribal chief encountered during Jesuit incursions. Later, the city of Tubarão (Santa Catarina, Brazil) was founded by Captain João da Costa Moreira, adopting the same name. In Portuguese, tubarão means “shark” — completing the connection between myth, geography, and nature.
